June 17 - 25, 2006 - Belize

The Belize trip in June 2006 was somewhat different from past trips.  This time we were able to work in the clinics, assisting the local staff.  We had the opportunity to compare the differences in our approach: from patient teaching on medication and disease process and to the amount of time spent per patient. The medical student volunteers had an opportunity to work and assist in different types of clinics, from well baby care and immunization, assessing new born to maternity childcare and regular primary care.  There were 11 volunteers: 2 registered nurses (Sharon Baker from Canada and Yvonne Keen of Florida) and 8 medical students with Steve Koshler as Group Leadeer.  The team was led by Dr. David Keen, Medical Director of CAMEO.
