"Touching lives thru medical missions"
Since 1993, under the direction of Dr. David Keen (a Jamaican born Physician), teams of 15 to 20 volunteers have been traveling to Jamaica about three times per year to provide treatment, medication and supplies to the less fortunate residents of these areas. We have since expanded our territory to include St. Vincent and Belize.
These volunteers augment government run clinics and churches screening for hypertension and diabetes, as well as treating many other ailments. Anywhere from 600 to 800 patients are seen in a given week.
All the team members have been funding these trips out of their own pockets and giving up their vacation time to help those in need. The majority of the medications and supplies are purchased by the organization, and some are even purchased by the doctors. All medications and treatments are given to the patients at no cost. We also supply patients with reading glasses and medical supplies such as wheelchairs, walkers and crutches, all at no cost. We also donate hospital beds and wheelchairs to the local hospitals in need.
Caribbean American Medical Educational Organization, Inc. (CAMEO), a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, was formed to coordinate the fundraising efforts to support these trips. As CAMEO’s resources grow, we will be able to provide more services, more equipment, more medications, to more places, more often.
